Palm Springs Jazz House

We were approached to complete the interior fitout for a fabulous midcentury modern residence built by the Alexander Construction Company in 1958 and designed by William Krisel, with a casita addition designed by Hugh Kaptur, so quite a pedigree!

The new owners wanted to use the home both for themselves and as a vacation rental so we worked with them to come up with a theme that not only suited their own vibe but would also attract the attention of potential travelers when looking online for accommodation. We settled on a “Jazz” theme, most noticeable from the wall art choices throughout the property, but also reflected in the 60s aesthetic that is brought through the entire home.

With 4 bedrooms, the lounge needed seating for at least 8 and the huge L-shaped midcentury styled sofa we sourced certainly fitted the bill and created the centerpiece of the home’s main room, alongside the matching coffee table and credenza. Accessories like the wooden bar cart and record player with console certainly added to the retro jazz aesthetic as well.

For the dining area, we went a little more “mod” with a chrome sputnik light fitting plus white oval tulip table and bright orange chairs that paired with the orange kitchen counter stools. Three chrome ball pendants were also added above the kitchen counter.

Each of the bedrooms in the main house adopted their own identity with bright wallpapers adding huge amounts of color to where there previously was none.

In the casita, a very 60s style multi-colored wallpaper took centerstage in the lounge, positioned on the wall where it could be seen from the backyard. There we added bright yellow chairs to the fire pit and bright blue chairs to a circular dining table for outdoor dining.

In the pool area we opted for blue sun lounges which matched the blue trim of the house and pool tile. This was paired with yellow accents across the umbrellas, side tables and throw pillows which gave the pool a fun and bright feel which is sure to attract many a potential holiday maker.
