Chateau Palomino

This project involved a renovation of an early 70s ranch style home with great bones that was unfortunately a little heavy on the browns, tans and beiges so popular when people remodeled around the early 2000s. But we saw the potential to add some classic and contemporary Palm Springs flavor and turn it into a high-end and stylishly decorated residence bursting with color at every turn.

Situated in the serene Los Compadres neighborhood that earned its monicker from the famous horse stables of the same name, we dubbed the project ‘Chateau Palomino’ and harnessed a glamorous equestrian aesthetic fitting with the location. This subtle “cheval chic” look pops up in the details around the home, starting with the bright yellow front doors complete with horse head and horse shoe door knockers - and continuing through certain wallpapers, lighting, door pulls, wall art and other decor pieces.

The facade was transformed with a white. black and yellow theme, with the yellow coming through to the entrance foyer as well, in turn leading to the expansive lounge room complete with peacock blue velvet chesterfields with custom brass ball legs.

Rather than going back to scratch, we always try to utilize and capitalize on existing elements to save time and money, and so with the kitchen, the existing cabinetry was kept, only removing the uppers, and then these were painted in a high gloss peachy pink to make the existing countertops more relevant to the design.

This idea was carried through to the bathrooms where existing vanities were retained and transformed from boring brown to bright green and yellow respectively to tie in with the new themes. The master bathroom shower was also enlarged by removing a bulkhead, medicine cabinet and hallway linen closet to make it more expansive and luxurious in keeping with a master.

What was a TV room became the jade green themed dining room complete with glam mirrors on one wall and local designer Candice Held’s chinoiserie style wallpaper on the other. Other wallpaper choices were made for the entrance, two bedrooms and office that added strong splashes of color and a focus of attention for each area.

Outside in the backyard the pool was resurfaced and a bright yellow glass tile used for the waterline which worked in perfectly with the new yellow-and-white striped super-luxe cabana, the pool umbrellas and the outdoor dining area under the matching yellow-and-white striped awning.
