Canyon Club Kaleidoscope

When the purchasers of this house-sized condo in the legendary Canyon Country Club Colony community got in contact with us, they emphasized one word… “color”!

Previous owners had updated in the 90s with a look that very much didn’t suit the mid-century style of the property, and so our mission was to restore the retro charm while adding the requested kaleidoscope of color for what would be a family vacation home.

The remodel stage saw us replace the unsightly countertops in the kitchen and bathrooms with a more-fitting terrazzo style quartz, while painting the cabinetry in the kitchen a vivid 70s-inspired orange. In the bathrooms, we went with a cool blue and a soft green to pair with their respective adjoining bedrooms. The bathrooms also saw us installing new and more funky mirrors, lighting and pulls, all with a shiny silver finish. Beige wall paint throughout the home made way for a clean white hue to deliver a brighter and lighter feel.

Fresh furniture was brought in across the home, starting with the large living room that benefited from a mid-century style oversized curved blue sofa, supplemented by an Eames-style chair and ottoman in white leather that worked in well with the white and walnut coffee and side tables. These pieces also matched the impressive new retro-style sideboard for the TV that was flanked by large palms in gold planters, all backed by a golden patterned wallpaper. The gold finished were carried through across the corner tension pole light and bar cart with dome lamp. Wall art here saw a mix of Slim Aaron photography and mid-century inspired graphic pieces.

The sunny palette in the dining and kitchen area took its cue from the kitchen, with orange stools at the counter, yellow lucite chairs around the dining table, and a red-orange-yellow flying saucer light installed above. This “sunny disposition” was supplemented by the large and colorful sunrise print on the wall.

The children’s bedrooms were each made to order! One boy requested blues and so an aqua patterned wallpaper was paired with a royal blue bed and lamps, plus navy colored nightstands and dresser. The younger son said he wanted “fire” and so we complied with a “superhot” flame-patterned wallpaper, yellow bed and dresser, red lamps, orange bench and some 70s Italian-style white, round plastic nightstands.

The master bedroom received a more sophisticated “adult” feel, where a green lattice wallpaper with an Asian feel was hung, paired with a green velvet bed, white and gold nightstands with gold lamps, all supplemented by a matching desk with green velvet chair. The adjacent patio benefited from a 4-seat green and white cafe set, topped off by a cute green and white striped umbrella.

The other two patios were not forgotten, with the one off of the living area continuing the blue theme across the dining set and sun lounges, from which you can take in the golf course views. Meanwhile, the patio off of the kitchen kept the sun-filled vibes alive with yellow and orange accents to take in while enjoying the pool views.

It was massive transformation from its previous incarnation, and the owners could not have been happier to enjoy all the modern conveniences paired will all the colorful mid-century vibes we created.
